An optical-based system for particle size analysis

Compared to classical sieve analysis, the digital image processing method described in this article improves both the quality and efficiency of particle analysis in the micron to milimetre range.
The measuring principle of the newly introduced CAMSIZER optical system is simple.
The sample falls past an extended light source and produces shadows that are recorded by two "full frame" digital cameras. By using two cameras with different resolutions, a very large particle size range from 30µm to 30mm can be measured accurately and at high resolution.
