Fluid bed coated multiparticulates constitute an important class of solid oral dosage forms. Preparation of these dosage forms has been well described in the literature.
The particles of interest in this article are reservoir devices, consisting of rapidly dissolving cores that are subsequently coated with a polymer membrane to control drug release. As controlled-release coating material is applied in a fluid bed, polymer membrane thickness increases, resulting in a decrease in drug release as measured by dissolution testing.
